Large evergreen shrub to small tree. Height is 12-15 feet, can reach 25 feet. The leaves are alternate and serrated. It can tolerate good or poor drainage and full sun or shade. The red berries feed wildlife and the leaves can be made into a caffeine rich tea. "Weeping" Yaupon, is a cultivar with weeping branches that was discovered in Louisiana. The cultivar "Pride of Houston", is more rectangular shaped, and is good for hedges. Native from Virginia to Arkansas, to the Gulf of Mexico.
