Shrub to small tree in frostless climates. Height is up to 20 feet, usually less in areas outside of its native range. Leaves are orbicular to 8 inches across, leathery and glossy. White flowers and purple fruit in bunches that resemble grapes. The fruit is edible and is often used for jelly. Should be cut back and covered in hard freezes. Useful as a tropical shrub, for erosion control in beach areas and for the fruit. Good for a potted patio plant as well. Native to southern Florida to South America. Possibly native to southern Mississippi. Also sold in plug trays for $1.15 per plug with variable minimum quantites.
